If you have been trawling the net for the best diet supplement, you’ve no doubt chanced upon Relacore, a weight loss supplement cum anti-aging product that takes on a new angle on fighting fat.
The Premise Behind Relacore:
Relacore, a product of The Carter-Reed Company, is a weight loss aid that does not belong to the regular category of fat burners, appetite suppressants or detoxifiers. Relacore belongs to its own niche as a stress fighter. The premise is that stress is the primary culprit of belly fat and aging. Aside from adrenaline, stress releases a lingering hormone called cortisol which wreaks havoc on our systems if stress levels are adequate enough to keep it present for a long time.
According to The Carter-Reed Company’s in-house scientist, “Research has demonstrated that there is a link between stress and belly fat retention.” The official website goes on to say that although you lose weight through diet and exercise, the belly bulge still stubbornly clings on. The stress (brought on by dieting and other everyday occurrences) triggers cortisol release, the side effects of which are weight gain, blood sugar imbalance, and a host of other consequences.
Relacore was formulated to target the reduction of belly fat by reducing cortisol levels caused by stress. Its anti-aging qualities are simply offshoots of its primary role.
What’s In A Pill?
Relacore is an all natural blend of vitamins and herbs consisting of Vitamin C, calcium, The B vitamins—Thiamin, Riboflavin, B6, B12 and Biotin, panthonenic acid, magnesium and its special proprietary blend. The proprietary mix is a 265 mg. total of herbal stress relievers:
- Magnolia Bark – A 2006 study did prove magnolia bark as an effective stress reducer but only if paired with another herb called phellodendron amurense or Corktree.
- Passion Flower
- Scutellaria – Chinese herb also known as Scullcap
- Niacinamide – a form of Vitamin B3 used as a stress manager
- Panax ginseng – a root that can soothe the nervous system, balance blood sugar and metabolism as well as support the body to increase resistance against stress
- Pinellia – commonly called Green Dragon. In weight loss supplements it increases energy, although it does have some ephedra alkaloids. We don’t know if this should be considered an illegal ingredient or even be tackled as a labeling issue. Perhaps the ephedra content is negligible.
- Poria – commonly used in weight loss supplements as a diuretic.
- Jujuba — the fruit from this Chinese tree has calming effects
- Phosphatidylserine — had been used to some effect to reduce cortisol production triggered by stress induced by athletic training
Is Relacore Worth Trying?
Perhaps and then perhaps not. There is a ton of controversy on this product. Relacore has its share of good customer feedback as well as complaints. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been on the manufacturer’s back regarding what the FTC believes is its “baseless and bogus advertising claims” regarding the whole cortisol-stress-weight gain cycle promotions. FTC has already gotten another health supplement, Cortislim, for using the same outlandish claims. Relacore, at present, is fighting the government, tooth and nail.
There may be some truth to the stress-weight gain theory; but we think cortisol plays a very minor role in the obesity problem. It is more probable that supplement marketers simply blow up the cortisol problem out of proportion.
It is how you handle stress that makes for weight gain. When stressed, do you put it out on binge eating or sedentary habits? The actions to relieve stress, we believe, are what promote weight gain or weight loss, not really cortisol per se.
Whether by virtue of its formulation or its placebo effect, Relacore may provide some stress busting, but you shouldn’t rely on this. A change towards positive coping mechanisms should be the norm, not reliance on a capsule.
As a tummy tuck in a pill, well it’s a long stretch. For one, there is no such thing as spot reducing when losing weight. When you lose weight, you lose all over, whether in large inches or a few millimeters. If your tummy fat is the last to go, then that’s how your body type basically works. You can’t do much about it, unless you get a liposuction.
The Bottom Line
As great as Relacore sounds, hold off your decision to purchase before you know more. True, there have been a number of satisfied customers but if the FTC smells a rat, it’s best to be cautious as well. This stress related tummy fat theory is new and there have been no concrete studies put up front to actually substantiate it as a fact.
Please note that a number of positive comments about Relacore points to it as a stress buster more than a weight loss aid. Unless you’ve got money to burn, it is best to try a real, tried and tested weight loss supplement like Phentramin-D. See how Phentramin-d works here.
The presence of good customer feedback merits a star and a half; but we still have a ton of reservations about Relacore.
