Pregnancy is a time to be extra careful and aware about what you take into your body. Everything you ingest affects not only you but another life over which you have tremendous responsibility. Pregnancy is also not the time to go on a weight loss program. In fact, a woman should not be losing weight during her pregnancy. This is of course, not to say, that she should be rampantly gaining either. A normal weight gain is to be expected so that it is actually not advisable or necessary to take weight control medication or supplements. Artificially suppressing your appetite may lead to the possibility of depriving your baby with vital nutrients.
Adipex has never been tested on pregnant women or even animals, and as such is labeled a Class C drug under the U.S. FDA’s Pregnancy Category. Although there is no conclusive evidence for deeming the drug unsafe for pregnant women, there is none to let us assume its safety either. It is therefore wise to err on the side of caution and avoid using Adipex during your term.
While there have no conclusive links between Adipex (and its generic form Phentermine) to birth defects, there have been reports suggesting Phentermine as the root of some lung problems and stillbirths. Phentermine is very similar to amphetamines, a class of stimulants which has been responsible for some cases of birth defects and miscarriages.
Although a doctor will perhaps never see the need to prescribe Adipex to a pregnant woman, we thought to issue this warning to those who plan to buy the drug illegally on the net. Just think: For the price of controlling your appetite for three months, would you risk the probability of actively participating in the development of a defective child? We hope NOT! Adipex is also not recommended if you are breastfeeding. Save Adipex for the right time when you can actually concentrate on a weight loss program.
If you are worried about adding more weight during your pregnancy, consult your physician about it. It is normal to expect to gain somewhere between 15 to 25 pounds more during your term.
